How It All Started: The Story Behind The Playground Standard

As a mom of three young children, I want their childhood to be filled with sunshine, laughter, climbing, and the simple joy of being outside. Playgrounds should be places where kids can explore freely and parents can feel confident letting them play.
But over time, something started to weigh on me.
Too often, we would pull up to playgrounds that looked dirty, neglected, or poorly maintained. Surfaces looked grimy. Equipment felt questionable. And as much as my kids were excited to play, I found myself hesitating.
If I am being completely honest, I often preferred we skip playgrounds altogether. Not because I do not love them, but because children naturally touch everything. Hands on railings. Hands in mouths. Wiping noses. Then back to climbing and sliding. As a parent, and admittedly a bit of a germ-conscious one, it is hard not to think about what is living on those surfaces.
There were multiple playgrounds we simply chose not to return to because of how unclean they felt.
And that never sat right with me.
The Moment Everything Changed
On February 14, 2026, while casually scrolling on TikTok, I came across a video that stopped me in my tracks. It showed a company professionally deep cleaning a playground. Not just spraying it down, but thoroughly cleaning every surface, crevice, and high-touch area with intention.
The before and after was shocking.
It was not just power washing. It was deep cleaning.
I turned to my husband and said, almost jokingly,“We should do that so our kids can actually play on clean playgrounds.”
What started as a passing comment quickly became a real conversation. Then a deeper one. Then a realization.
This was not just an interesting idea. This was a real need.
More Than Just Power Washing
One of the first things we both recognized was that playground cleaning is often misunderstood.
Some might assume you can just hire a standard power washing company. But that is not the same.
The way we see it is simple:You can spend five dollars on an automatic car wash, or you can go to a professional detailer who deep cleans every surface, crack, and corner until your car feels brand new.
Playgrounds deserve that same level of care.
Children do not just touch one surface. They touch everything. Slides, railings, climbing structures, handles, and panels. A quick rinse is not enough when you are dealing with high-touch environments used by dozens, sometimes hundreds, of children.
The 10-Day Leap of Faith
For the first two days after that video, we talked about it constantly. Could this work? Was this needed in North Texas? Would families and communities actually value cleaner playgrounds?
The answer felt obvious the more we thought about it.
Families deserve better.Kids deserve better.
From there, things moved quickly.
We researched everything we would need: a trailer, power washer, water tank, hoses, professional cleaning equipment, and most importantly, eco-friendly and child-safe cleaning supplies. We wanted to make sure that anything used on a playground would be safe for the very children using it.
Within six days, we officially formed our LLC.My husband, Tre, began designing the logo and building the website. We launched our social media platforms. We even created a full presentation to explain our mission and services.
In just 10 days, what started as a simple conversation turned into a real company.
Why the Name “The Playground Standard”
Choosing the name was actually one of the most meaningful parts of the process.
At first, we considered something more whimsical and playful, since it involved playgrounds. But the truth is, this work is not whimsical. It is intentional. It is detailed. It is serious work that directly impacts children’s health and safety.
We realized we were not just starting a fun business. We were setting a new expectation.
Playgrounds should be clean. They should be safe. They should be places families feel proud to visit, not hesitant to use.
That is how The Playground Standard was born... a company dedicated to setting the standard for safer, cleaner play.
A Parent-First Mission
My “why” is simple and deeply personal.
I have always been mindful about germs, especially in shared public spaces. The idea that a sick child could touch a surface, and then my child touches the same spot moments later, is something many parents quietly think about but rarely talk about.
We are not here to create fear.We are here to create confidence.
Confidence that when children climb, swing, and explore, they are doing so in a cleaner, safer environment.
Built By Parents, For Families
This is truly a family-led mission.
Tre leads the cleaning operations and field work, ensuring every playground is thoroughly and professionally deep cleaned. I manage the operations, strategy, and growth of the company, bringing my background in sales and administration to help us serve more communities.
And our kids?
They are incredibly excited.
To them, this means we get to visit and explore tons of parks. Of course, their favorite part is that they know the playgrounds will be cleaned first.
Doing It the Right Way
From the beginning, we committed to doing this the right way.
That means using eco-friendly, child-safe products and methods that are effective without being harsh. Our own children play on these same structures. What touches your child’s hands touches ours too.
We are not just cleaning playgrounds. We are creating a ready-to-play experience.
Raising the Standard for North Texas and Beyond
What began as a single TikTok video and a conversation between two parents quickly grew into something much bigger.
Today, The Playground Standard proudly serves playgrounds across North Texas, with a mission to support parks, schools, daycares, churches, HOAs, and communities that care about the spaces their children use every day.
Because at the end of the day, this is not just about cleaning equipment.
It is about childhood. It is about peace of mind.It is about giving families spaces that feel as safe and welcoming as they should have always been.
We were parents who were tired of avoiding dirty playgrounds. So we built a company that deep cleans them and raises the standard for safer, cleaner play.
Because our kids - and yours - deserve better.
